The goal of the Sea Stories of Hope project is to shift the stories we tell about our oceans from ones of despair to ones of evidence-based hope, in order to foster greater environmental engagement. With funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers, this project aims to bring together the general public, teachers and students at all educational levels (from kindergarten to higher education), researchers, environmental experts, tourists, and commercial actors to create, collect, and tell different and more hopeful stories about the oceans.

Digital bullying is a big challenge all over the world. The PARTICIPATE project is looking at this research theme in relation to parents. The project will consist of a multi sectoral, interdisciplinary world class PhD programme. The programme consists of networking and exchange of information and competence about digital bullying in Europe.

Heating and cooling in buildings and industry are responsible for half of energy consumption in Europe. They have also put a severe pressure on the Norwegian electricity grid. There is a lot of waste heat released from data centres and other industrial processes in Norway, which is poorly mapped and utilized.
In the fall of 2022, University of Stavanger welcomed 12 guest researchers and artists from across the world to engage with each other and the UiS community in a semester-long exploration of the meanings of green transitions. Each fellow gave a talk to present their project and contributed to an international conference on green transitions.

A creative process with digital technology is a complex process consisting of traditional non-digital and new digital activities. It is important that educators use different pedagogical strategies when involving young children in the process. However, it is not enough to focus merely on the process – the finished product is also important to the children.
The project will investigate beacons or warning fires that were lit during attacks on the country in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. When secondary school pupils read demanding fiction, they become engaged by the difficult nature of the texts, and approach the texts in a manner that is relevant for the subject of literature, a new PhD thesis shows.
How significant is the teacher-pupil ratio when it comes to the learning outcome and learning environment of elementary school children? The question has caused great debate, however international studies are divided on the matter. Two Teachers is one of two large research projects investigating the effect of an increased teacher-pupil ratio for Norwegian pupils.
Structural geology is the study of tectonic deformation. We focus on the deformation of the upper crust and how it affects erosion and sedimentation in sedimentary basins, forms faults and folds that compartmentalize reservoirs, and makes ductile materials, such as salt, flow.
