Fourteen years after the tragedy, memories are still being shaped and negotiated—through art, politics, media, literature, architecture, cultural heritage, and education.

At a time when societies around the world are grappling with the aftermath of violent events, understanding how we remember—and why it matters—is more important than ever.

The new international anthology Terrorism in Memory Culture – Investigating the Aftermath of July 22 in Norway (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025) brings together insights from a range of disciplines to explore the long-term consequences of the 2011 terror attacks in Norway.

The book examines how memory is negotiated over time, shaped by political, social, and cultural contexts. It also sheds light on broader trends in memory culture, including the global and digital dimensions of remembrance practices, the pace at which memorial initiatives emerge, and the evolving role of testimony and multiple narratives in a new media landscape.

As part of the launch event, one of the book’s editors, Professor Alexandre Dessingué (University of Stavanger), will present the book and highlight key findings.
