MASTER International Music Performance Exchange Semester (MUK-INTSEM1)

The course is intended to give foreign students the opportunity to gain experience of practising their art subject in the face of Norwegian academic and learning traditions and a different cultural context from their home country. The course is chosen instead of the selection of courses they would otherwise have taken during the same semester at their home institution.

Content

This course code covers incoming students to UiS. The course will mainly include performing activities aimed at MA level, including e.g. main instrument and ensemble activities. It will be possible to have several modalities of and approaches to the course within the framework of the main discipline subject. In addition, the course may also contain theoretical and/or pedagogical components, but the performing area must account for at least half of the total workload.

After completing and passing the course, the candidate shall have acquired the knowledge, skills and general competences that enable them to

  • reflect on their development and experience as a performing and/or co-creating musician or dancer at a high level through a residency at a foreign institution
  • reflect at a high level on the cultural frameworks under which they have worked and contextualise this in relation to themselves as a performing and/or co-creating musician or dancer

The form of assessment must be specified in the learning agreement. The course is assessed as pass/fail.

Coursework requirements

The student is obliged to comply with the mandatory work requirements and comply with the current rules at the place of study.

100% compulsory attendance for teaching and compulsory participation in projects and concerts, the Master Forums included.

Method of work

Incoming exchange students follow a study programme at our faculty, either by joining an existing programme or by the faculty organising a programme specifically for the individual student.

Incoming students are assigned a supervisor at UiS, who follows up their work during their stay abroad.

Students are expected to attend all master's forums.

Open for

The course is not open for private students.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
