What will the business sector do to reach the net-zero goal?

Join us for an insightful knowledge meeting. This time, we focus on the role of businesses in Norway's journey towards net-zero emissions. The question we pose is simple: What will the business sector do to contribute?

Norway's greenhouse gas emissions are decreasing, but we are still far from the goal of reducing emissions by 55 percent by 2030. At the current pace, we won't reach the target of cutting emissions by at least 90 percent by 2050 until 2067.

The pace of the climate transition must accelerate. While policymakers have significant responsibilities, so does the business sector. Companies involved in oil and gas production or onshore industrial production are responsible for nearly half of all Norwegian greenhouse gas emissions. Including other parts of the business sector, this share becomes even larger.

At this knowledge meeting, we invite some of the companies at the top of Norway's emissions list. We’ll hear about their plans for reducing emissions in the short and medium term, and whether these efforts are sufficient to achieve the climate goals.

The event is a collaboration between the Norwegian Climate Foundation and the University of Stavanger.
