Content

Globalization, migration, and secularization make human rights issues ever relevant in a school setting. The subject in human rights is specially designed with future teachers in primary and lower secondary school in mind. Human rights that are important for identity shaping and integration into a majority population are emphasized. Human rights are highlighted from different points of view and various academic disciplines. Debates about human rights violations involving pupils, parents, teachers, schools and the curriculum are highlighted.

Home exam (3000 words +/- 10%) which count 40% of the total grade.An oral, individual examination (30 minutes) counts for 60% of the total grade.All assessments must be passed to get a grade in the course.

Method of work

Lectures, discussions and student presentations, (oral and written). Some group work must be expected. Active student participation is expected. Teaching language is English if there are non-Norwegian speakers in the class. The syllabus is English.
