  • Title of the presentation: Current health issues in Norwegian salmon farming and the challenges estimating their costs
Abstract:

Abstract: In 2023, 62.8 million farmed Atlantic salmon died prematurely during the seawater stage of production. The primary cause was health issues, including diseases and severe side effects from treatments against salmon lice. This situation results in poor health and welfare for the animals, lost profits for farmers, and a resource loss for society. Our resources for preventing, controlling, and treating animal diseases are limited.

Therefore, it is essential to prioritize and invest our efforts where the need is greatest, ensuring that we maximize the benefits of our prevention, control, and treatment measures in Norwegian salmonid farming. This seminar provides an overview of the current key health issues in Norwegian salmonid farming and the challenges associated with estimating their costs.
