NB! This is an elective course and may be cancelled if fewer than 10 students are enrolled by January 20th for the spring semester.
In this course students will learn about the processes/pathways that are involved in disease development. We will use examples from cancer, auto-immune diseases, cardiology, neurological diseases (Parkinson, Alzheimer) and diabetes.
Learning outcome
- Understand how cells react to change in the local environment
- Understand the cause, development, morphology and clinical significance of changes in the body / tissues and cells
- Learn to understand and recognize diseases of the heart, lungs, salivary glands, digestive system, and nervous system
- Understand how environmental factors and nutrition can cause disease
- Learn more about the biology behind cancer development
- Recognize cell changes both macroscopically and microscopically

Coursework requirements
Mandatory Presentation
The student must give a compulsory presentation (5 minutes). This must be approved for the student to be admitted to the exam.

Four hours lectures each week all at the hospital, some as well at the department of pathology (looking at organs and doing some microscopy).

Course assessment
There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
