Content

Snow and ice loads. Seismic loads and structural response analysis. Wind loads and load effects. Linear wave theory. Wave forces.

Learning outcome

The course is to give students an introduction to environmental loads. Upon completing the course, the students shall:

  • be familiar with snow and ice loads effects on structures as well as the load design values
  • be familiar with effects of earthquake on structures, and be able to compute structural response to earthquake by using the design spectrum
  • be familiar with the mean and time-varying wind forces on structures, and be able to calculate the static and dynamic wind-induced response
  • be familiar with the linear wave theory and wave and current loads on structures

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital course evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
