Outdoor Education Climbing and friluftsliv in the local environment (UDR110)

Students will use the near-environment to experience the joy of stay in nature. Students should be able to plan and lead activities for pupils from a local school in the forest. Climbing inside and outside will be a core element.

Content

  • Friluftsliv activities in the local natural environment
  • Plan, lead and assess friluftsliv activities to pupils from a local school
  • Prevention of accidents, first aid, self saving in the sea and CPR
  • Excursion. Minimum two nights (Participating)
  • Student-led excursion

Learning outcome

Following completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

Knowledge:

* climbing terminology

* plan for outdoor teaching

* risk analyze and first aid

Skills

  • Be able to analyze the terrain, plan and lead various friluftsliv activities for pupils in the local environment.
  • Be able to do a hike in the mountains (several days)
  • Be able to belay climbers inside and outside
  • CPR and first aid

General

  • Lead groups in local activities and on trips in the local nature environment.
  • Ensure the safety of various forms of activity.
  • Be able to perform CPR, first aid and life-saving.

Coursework requirements

80 % attendance required for all practical activities/excursions, Student lead trip

The subject has the following practical excursions and activities:

Hiking in the mountains for 3 days

Mandatory teaching of local students in the forest

Students/groups that receive one or more of the mandatory activities "not approved" on the first attempt will be provided the opportunity to take the activity again. If the same task or activity is not possible to organize, an alternative task or activity will be given.

Teaching alternates between practical and theoretical teaching, excursions, group and self-studies.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
