1. Presentation of the FReINDs Project: Advancing Industrial Symbiosis

The FReINDs project equips industries with the necessary skills and tools to adopt Industrial Symbiosis (IS) practices. This segment will provide an in-depth overview of the project, highlighting its objectives, critical activities, and expected deliverables. The initiative focuses on designing, piloting, and delivering a specialized curriculum for future Industrial Symbiosis Managers (ISMs), aiming to unlock the potential of circular economy (CE) businesses while enhancing their capacity to achieve sustainable impacts.  

Key activities include the development of a hybrid MOOC on IS integrated with industrial networks, the creation of an IS case database, and organizing workshops and webinars to disseminate project outcomes.

About the speakers: 

Dr. Thomas Laudal is an Associate Professor at the UIS School of Business and Law, University of Stavanger in Norway. He holds a Doctorate in Change Management from the University of Stavanger. His research focuses on institutional and industry perspectives of introducing new ICT, new business models, and sustainable business strategies. Laudal has 12 years of work experience at the European Commission, the Norwegian Ministry of Industry, and consultancy work in the oil and gas industry.

Dr. Ali Turkyilmaz is an Associate Professor at the UIS School of Business and Law, University of Stavanger in Norway. His expertise lies in supply chain and operations management, digital transformation, and smart-sustainable systems. Dr. Ali’s research and teaching focus on integrating sustainable practices into business operations.
Dr. Ali Turkyilmaz and Dr. Thomas Laudal represent the lead partner of the FReINDs project, which aims to support the EU’s push for a sustainable, low-carbon economy through Industrial Symbiosis.
