  • Title of the presentation: Grønnpuls - Managing and Reporting Sustainability Information for SMEs in the Energy Sector
Abstract:

Corporate sustainability activities in the energy sector have historically focused on measuring and managing emissions from the operating firms, neglecting the untapped potential of emission reduction within the value chain. A pilot study among suppliers in the Norwegian energy sector reveals that competencies in managing sustainability information vary widely, particularly the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that face significant challenges. Concurrently, the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) mandates that large firms include emissions from their value chain in their sustainability accounting and reporting, thereby increasing pressure on their SME suppliers to report sustainability information.

The GrønnPuls Project aims to bridge this gap, starting with conducting a questionnaire to assess SMEs’ competence in managing sustainability information. This project is a collaboration between the University of Stavanger, local startup Compera, The Brønnøysund Register Centre, Sparebank 1 Sør-Norge, and major players in the Norwegian energy sector such as Equinor and Aker Solutions, among others.
