Title of the presentation: Environmental, economic and social sustainability - Perspectives from the Fishery and Aquaculture Performance Indicators

Abstract: There is growing recognition that fisheries and aquaculture should be managed for the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic and social sustainability. However, there are no methods or data collected that can be used to consistently evaluate and compare fisheries and aquaculture performance along the three pillars of sustainability. The Fishery Performance Indicators (FPI) and Aquaculture Performance Indicators (API) were designed to address this gap. Using data on 156 fisheries and 69 aquaculture case studies collected using the FPI and API, performance outcomes of fisheries and aquaculture are examined across a suite of variables. The relationships between input and output indicators are analyzed to help understand the relationship between enabling factors and sustainable industry development.
