The department comprises the two subject areas of economics and finance. The department's research topics include game theory, the benefits of early educational investments, the national budget, stock markets, environmental economics, and energy economics.
The Department of Economics and Finance members teach in the bachelor and master programs at the UiS Business School. They are highly sought after as external lecturers and expert consultants in both the private and the public sectors. They are involved as partners in research projects both nationally and internationally and research a wide variety of subjects: Behavioral and experimental economics; Labor and education economics; Energy, natural resources, & environmental economics; Energy finance and commodity markets; Corporate finance and governance; Microstructures of financial markets, Macroeconomic policies; Applied econometric frontiers (machine learning, natural language processing, etc.).
