At last we can once again come together in Tjodhallen to celebrate the events of the past year. For the first time in seven years, a new honorary doctor of UiS will be appointed.
UiS already has six honorary doctors. The first four were appointed in 2005: former UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Egeland from Stavanger, Nobel laureate in economics Finn Kydland from Ålgård, professor of literature Toril Moi from Farsund and doctor of petroleum technology and one of the driving forces behind the establishment of civil engineering programme in Stavanger, Rajagopal Raghavan.
In 2009, Jacob Jervell, Professor of Theology, was awarded an honorary doctorate for his great efforts in research and his significant role in the public debate. And finally, in 2014, Finn Kjærsdam, professor emeritus and former rector of Aalborg University, was appointed honorary doctor.
Honorary doctorates are awarded for significant scientific or artistic achievements in the fields of science or arts.
This year's celebration speaker is Dr. Fatih Birol, President of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The winners of Lyse's research award, SR-bank's innovation award and the Learning Environment award at UiS vil also be announced at the event on Friday.
In addition, we will celebrate that 56 new candidates have completed the doctorates in the past year.
There will be entertainment by students at the Faculty of Performing Arts and by the local oud player Khaled Habeeb.
The event takes place in Tjodhallen from 1pm to 2.30 pm. Everyone is welcome! After the event, coffee and cakes will be served in the foyer of Kjølv Egeland's house.
