Career planning
Half-day online career worshop
Career planning and making effektive career choices
This online workshop aims to help PhD and postdoctoral researchers to improve their employability depending on their career goals, using tools and techniques to assist them in assessing their skills and interests. With a career planning overview and information about what influences career decisions, they will understand how to apply this knowledge to make informed career decisions and identify areas for personal development.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop participants will:
1. know the basic theory of career planning and be able to apply it to their own career strategy;
2. be more self-aware about their skills and capabilities and how to apply this knowledge to the job market in terms of career choice and job seeking strategies;
3. be able to make more informed decisions about their career, whether within or outside of academia;
Preparation
The workshop will require short pre-preparation tasks in order to achieve the learning
and outcomes specified. As well as presenting the workshop (with the pdf of the slides
made available to participants), the tutor will facilitate on-line discussions (co-hosted
with Lucy Tallents, pedagogical engineer) and offer informal support post-webinar.
This is the first of two online workshops on the topic of career development with Sarah Blackford. The first is Tuesday 13th May and the second on May 15th. We reccomend you attend both.
