Through a doctoral programme, you acquire skills that can be applied in many sectors. The PhD programme educates independent researchers at an international level, which requires a high degree of independence and the ability to complete tasks effectively. The education is conducted in accordance with recognized scientific and ethical principles and in interaction with national and international research environments.
The PhD program in Health and Medicine is based on research environments associated with the three academic departments at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Stavanger:
- Department of Public Health
- Department of Quality and Health Technology
- Department of Caring and Ethics
Our research environments are broad and encompass research that promotes health promotion, prevention, and societal participation; research that supports ethical and sustainable changes in health and welfare services and ensures quality; research on the use of simulation in clinical practice and education; and research in health technology, digitalization, and e-health. Additionally, the Faculty of Health Sciences maintains close research collaborations with other faculties at the University of Stavanger, as well as with other universities, both nationally and internationally, and with the specialist and primary healthcare services.
At the Faculty of Health Sciences, we have around 70 PhD candidates. Among these are candidates employed as research fellows at the university, as well as candidates with external funding through their employer or various scholarship schemes.
