This is a 1-year course in Norwegian Language, Culture and social studies that aims to give Norwegian language proficiency to refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Norwegian Language, Culture and Social Studies programme Levels 2 and 3 is a 1-year programme that is meant for students fleeing the war in Ukraine who plan to take higher education in Norway. The course is meant for students who have a basic knowledge of Norwegian and will therefore require minimum A2 or equivalent level of Norwegian.
Upon successful completion of the course and passed final exam, students meet the Norwegian language requirement demanded by the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service (NUCAS) to be admitted to Norwegian universities and colleges.
Please note that the attendance at all the classes is obligatory. You cannot combine this study programme with full-time work/study.

After having completed level 1 and 2, the student shall have acquired basic knowledge of Norwegian phonology, grammar and vocabulary.
The student shall have knowledge of the following topics:
- Family and society
- Education and working life
- Holidays and celebrations
- Climate, nature and geography
- Cultural and leisure activities
- Welfare state (health, school and work)
- Housing and economy
- Local and national industries
After completing this course, students should be able to: - Read and understand different texts
- Collect information from various texts
- Participate in everyday conversations and conversations related to the curriculum
- Take linguistic initiative and express your own opinions
- Express yourself orally and in writing with a varied and functional vocabulary
- Have a language structure that does not hinder communication
- Make a statement that does not hinder communication
- Be able to understand simple lectures in Norwegian and write short texts on topics from the syllabus and various everyday topics
General Competence
After completing this course, students should be able to: - Plan and carry out simple work tasks and projects in Norwegian
- Describe subject matter in writing and orally.
- Use Norwegian in everyday life and be able to position yourself in the local community
- Have insight into relevant forms of tasks in higher education in Norway
What are the admission requirements and how to apply?
- You must have education equivalent to the Higher Education Entrance Qualification i Norway. With education from Ukraine, you must have completed higher secondary education and at least 1 year university education. See the GSU list for more information on how to meet this requirement.
- English language proficiency. Check how to meet the English language requirement.
- Norwegian language proficiency at A2 level. This can be documented with one of the following:
- Norwegian Language test for adult immigrants from Kompetanse Norge/ Vox with the result A2 in all four disciplines
- Norwegian level 1 examination for international students at Norwegian universities
- Official certificate documenting A2 level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), from universities/colleges which offer Norwegian language examinations
Registrer your application in the application portal Søknadsweb of the University of Stavanger. First, choose ‘Application for Norwegian Language and Culture programme’ and then choose the study code 1004 Flyktning Ukraina: Trinn 2 + 3 Norsk språk, kultur og samfunnskunnskap. Remember to save your application to complete the application process. You will receive a confirmation by e-mail when your application is registered. Sign up with an e-mail address you check regularly, as we will use this one to contact you. Read below which documents must be uploaded. The deadline to submit documents is the same as the application deadline, 1 March. If you are taking a language test in Spring, upload a confirmation of your test registration by 25 April. The deadline for submitting language test results is 25 June.
The following documents must be uploaded in Søknadsweb.
- Final diploma from higher secondary education
- Minimum 1 year university education. This can be documented with a transcript of records from your university. An official translation must be attached if the document is not in English.
- Proof of English language proficiency
- Proof of Norwegian language proficiency
- Passport
- Proof of refugee status in Norway
Applicants will be ranked according to the following criteria:
- Refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine residing in Norway without any higher education beyond basic academic requirements.
- Refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine residing in Norway without academic education equivalent to a Master's degree in Norway.
- Refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine residing in Norway with higher education equivalent to a Master's degree in Norway.
- Other applicants (This concerns refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine residing in Norway).
