We commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day with a timely lecture on the parallels between the lead-up to World War II and our own time.

Last year, Sven Egil Omdal published the book 1936 – The Year Everything Happened, in which he argues that World War II had already become inevitable by 1936. It was the year the Spanish Civil War began, fascism reached full force, and global conflicts escalated.

Omdal sees striking similarities between 1936 and the times we live in today. He will visit the University Library to give the lecture: "Are We Living in a New Interwar Period? Lessons from 1936 – The Year the World Lost Its Grip."

The event is free and open to everyone.
