Programme structure

The management major comprises of compulsory major courses, tracks, electives and a master thesis within your major. The degree is 120 ECTS in total.

The Management major comprises of three foundation courses that are mandatory (30 ECTS) in the first and second semester:

In addition, you take the program common compulsory course in semester 1

Semester 2

In semester 2, you have two alternatives: specialize within your major, or take a minor in Innovation and Sustainability.

If you choose to specialize, you can choose one of the following:

  • Organization and leadership
  • Strategy and decision analytics
  • Digital marketing and AI

Each of these tracks comprises of two elective courses (20 ECTS).

A minor is two elective courses (20 ECTS) outside your major.

In addition to the tracks/minor courses (20 ECTS), the students also take the mandatory major course MSB206 Strategic Analysis (10 ECTS) in the second semester.

Semester 3

In the third semester, students can either:

  1. Go on student exchange. The UiS School of Business and Law recommends this alternative.
  2. Take a minor (two elective courses outside your major, 20 ECTS) plus an elective course (10 ECTS).
  3. Choose freely from different elective courses (30 ECTS). One course must be outside of your major.

In your fourth and final semester, you write your master thesis within your chosen major (30 ECTS).

Optional, but highly recommended:

  • MSB001 Professional Skill Boot Camp (1 ECTS): At the start of the master’s program, students will have an opportunity to attend a boot camp (in week 34). This optional but highly recommended initiative is designed to set them up for successful completion of their master’s degree and learn essential skills for today’s work life.

In semester 2, you have one mandatory course and two specialization courses:

In semester 3, you can choose to either go on student exchange abroad, take a minor or choose elective courses freely:

  1. Exchange semester (30 ECTS)
  2. Minor (20 ECTS) + 10 ECTS free elective
  3. 30 ECTS free electives (min. 10 ECTS outside your major)

In the fourth and final semester, you write your master thesis:
