Art in Society I (MUK701)
Art in Society I-II has a twofold goal: An ability to see and fit one's artistic work into a social context, and to prepare and carry out productions as a performer, administrator or curator. The latter is linked to the course's outreach communication component. Both aim to equip the student for different career paths and work tasks and to manoeuvre in a professional reality after completing the programme.

Content
The course will qualify students to see their artistic work and artistic projects in a societal context and thereby prepare them for working life and freelance life.
The course facilitates meetings and practical collaboration with relevant cultural and social institutions, as well as practice in independent groups or in a more project-based context. Students can get brief introductions to career planning and development, finances for freelance artists, as well as insight and training in application, launch and audition processes. Students will also reflect on and articulate how their creative and performing artistic practice relates to society as a whole, how art enters into dialogue with contemporary currents in society, and what role art can take in meeting societal challenges.
In the two courses Art in Society I/II, students will also create and implement dissemination concepts adapted to different contexts, either as performers, disseminators, producers or curators. During the autumn semester, all master's students receive a short joint theoretical training/lectures in dissemination (aimed at different target groups) and contextualisation.
During the spring semester of Art in Society I, students will either collaborate with a professional, external client on, for example, planning/production/administration, artistic commissioning or concept development, initiate and outline the structure of a student-run festival or concert series, or initiate and prepare a context/community-oriented communication project. The practical component is carried out as part of the course Art in Society (see separate course description for further information).
