Kielland 175 år

Alexander L. Kielland believed in literature's ability to change society and expressed criticism towards humanity's encroachment on nature as early as 1880. Today, more and more authors are addressing climate challenges. But can fiction about these challenges influence the climate fight and us as readers?

We invite you to a debate on the status and usefulness of climate literature in our time. On the panel: Author Simon Stranger, author and professor of Nordic literature at UiS, Ingrid Nielsen, and associate professor in interdisciplinary gender studies at UiS, Ingvil Førland Hellstrand. Moderator: Eirik Bø.

The event is a collaboration between Sølvberget, the University Library of Stavanger, and ExLibris. It is free, but feel free to sign up here so that we know how many are coming.

From February 12th to 18th, we celebrate the 175th anniversary of Alexander L. Kielland. The celebration is part of the city's jubilee in 2025 when Stavanger turns 900 years old.

Language: Norwegian.
