The government is establishing an expert group to examine measures for reducing resource use and contributing to a more circular economy.
Professor of Economics and Dean at the UiS School of Business and Law, Ola Kvaløy, is among the appointed members. The expert group is part of the government's action plan for the circular economy, which was launched on March 14th.
The group will examine which measures can promote circular activities to better utilize renewable and non-renewable resources, sustainable production and consumption, and increase value creation. This involves identifying economically viable measures and, based on this, proposing possible changes to the current use of instruments.
"Circular economy has appeared as somewhat vague concept to me and undoubtedly to many other economists as well. However, I have gradually come to know it as an essential tool. It addresses what is fundamentally at the heart of the climate crisis: the overconsumption of scarce resources. I look forward to participating in this committee's work," says Kvaløy.
The expert group is expected to deliver a comprehensive report and recommendation by April 2025.
Committee members:
- Brita Bye (chair)
- Ola Kvaløy
- Marit Aursand
- Thomas Hartnik
- Jarle Møen
- Kristine Nore
